<p>This site has been rebuilt as the permanent home for my academic work:
publications and working papers, talks and lectures, technical notes, and
essays like this one where I present ideas as they develop.</p>

<p>The site itself is a small experiment in infrastructure: it lives in a
<a href="https://github.com/wurtman/academic-website">public git repository</a>,
builds automatically on every push, and serves every page as plain,
fast, crawlable HTML. If you spot an error in anything I publish here,
